Steve Aaron Memorial

To many of the long running members of the Superkart Club of NSW and others within the sport of superkarting, the brilliance of Steve Aaron was always evident. Steve had a natural ability to drive any circuit and more often than not came away with a win. He won many titles within the sport including various state titles within Australia in his 125 gearbox and he raced his 80cc in the world titles in Hong Kong. For his achievements he received an award from Suzuki in Japan. During his time he developed many friendships and earned the respect and admiration of his fellow competitors.

To everyone it was evident that he had a bright future in racing. He needed to complete only the NSW event to become the national champion. He was about to test for a drive with Alan Moffat and Alan Grice, both big names of the era. Sadly, he was unable to attend the NSW event or the test drive as he tragically passed away as a result of an accident during a practice session at Amaroo Park in 1979. He was 19 years of age. A brilliant future cut terribly short.

Year Memorial Winners

The Steve Aaron Memorial trophy has been a well sought after achievement for many a driver since its inception in 1979. The list of winners is numerous and varied across a range of classes from 250 International class to the 125cc Rotax Max.

It was with great pleasure that the 2009 Steve Aaron Memorial race was held at the final round of Oran Park and saw the return of the Aaron Family to celebrate this event. After many years we are able to bring back some of the history to the club. Matt Aaron is currently providing us with further information about this brilliant young man and his life in regard to motorsport. As we receive this information it will be passed on through the website.

Many thanks to all of the drivers who attended this historical meeting and made it memorable for those who were there including the many members of the Aaron family.
